Diferentes fuentes, emails y mensajes por IM (especialmente Edmundo, que nos lo contaba desde ayer) nos avisan que en unos momentos más la MPAA, por medio de su presidente Dan Glickman y Bram Cohen, el creador de BitTorrent harán una conferencia de prensa en el American Film Institute en Hollywood.
No hay ningún detalle al respecto, los rumores indican que se usará BitTorrent como un canal de distribución comercial de películas. Más información de este importante anuncio aquí mismo a unos segundos que se haya hecho el anuncio oficial.
Actualización (17h18): El anuncio fue mucho menos importante o interesante de lo que se esperaba. Basicamente Bram Cohen se compromete a quitar enlaces “ilegales” de su buscador [Bittorrent.com] y empezará a trabajar junto a la MPAA para identificar y limitar el acceso a material no autorizado al buscar, también encontrar maneras de promover innovación “constructiva” en el área [del P2P].
Para los interesados, esto es lo más relevante del comunicado de prensa. A mi me suena a corporate talk de ese que a nadie le interesa:

una noticia que me deja frío…. y mucho que pensar

Movie theaters don’t matter… “For studios, the fact is that the theatrical film market is less than 10% of their business — it’s very, very small. I mean, you could chop that off in a second, and it wouldn’t even bother them — they’re just doing it as a promotional thing.” …but they’re not going anywere. “I don’t think the theatrical exhibition business will go away because I think people will always want to go to the movies, just as they go to the opera, they go to the ballet, and they go to football games. Football is a perfect example, where you can stay at home and watch it in the comfort of your own home and see a much better presentation, but people still sit out in the cold and cheer.”

cuando parecía que por fin se pondrían a trabajar juntos y dejarían la codicia de lado… tenían el balón, se fueron solitos a la portería y el disparo salió todo cucho… que desperdicio…. cuanta gente tiene en sus manos la oportunidad de hacer historia, de dejar algo bueno y -por falta de visión y conciencia histórica- lo tiran por la borda… que triste.
Uno más para el saco del viejo sistema que se resiste a morir e insiste en meter vino viejo en odres nuevos. Primero con Napster, luego Grokster y ahora (posiblemente) BitTorrent.
Pero tranquilos, que en menos de nada ya aparecerá algún nuevo protocolo aún más elusivo e infranqueable que se hará popular en un tris por la red, y así sucesivamente, hasta que algún día las MPAAs y SGAEs del mundo se cansen de jugar al gato y al ratón con los usuarios de la Internet. (¿Llegará alguna vez ese día?)
